Founded by local skipper Philip McNamara in 2015, Island Boat Charters was born from a passion for sharing the beauty of our local waters and wildlife with others.
Based in the historic seafaring town of Donaghadee, in the heart of County Down, we offer unforgettable trips aboard M/V Island Lady — the only passenger boat operating from Donaghadee Harbour. Fully licensed and regulated by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), safety and comfort are at the heart of every journey.
Philip is a well-respected seafarer with deep roots in the area and a lifetime of experience at sea, having first set sail as a young boy. His expert local knowledge ensures each trip is both enjoyable and informative.

Wildlife Cruises
Cruises – Approx. 1 hour 30 minutes
Our wildlife cruise begins at the historic steps of Donaghadee Harbour. We set sail towards the shores of the Great Copeland Island to visit the resident seal colony, before continuing to Old Lighthouse Island—also known as Bird Island. During the right season, you can spot puffins, shearwaters, black guillemots, greylag geese, and many more seabirds.
Keep an eye on the water too—we’re often joined by playful porpoises and dolphins along the way.
To finish, enjoy stunning views of the iconic Mew Island Lighthouse before we make our way back to shore.
Fishing Trips
Fishing Trips – Approx. 3 Hours
Join us for a 3-hour fishing adventure along the scenic coastline and around the Copeland Islands. Guided by Philip and his expert local knowledge, there’s always a good chance of landing something special!
We regularly catch mackerel, cod, pollock, gurnard, coalfish, ballan wrasse, and cuckoo wrasse—and whatever you catch, you’re welcome to take home.
Our trips are suitable for everyone—from experienced anglers to complete beginners and families looking for a fun day out. Bring your own rod or let us supply everything you need.
